Ajay is one of those children who likes to believe in these stories, especially to the story of King Yudhishthir (Dharma)  and his flying chariot. There comes a time in our lives, when we realise that these are just stories...

The Team

Koumarane Valavane – Director

Koumarane, a Franco-Indian, who left for France in his early years for his studies, started practicing theatre at a very young age. After completing his research in Theoretical Physics from University of Marseilles, he founded his own theatre company “Natya”. Before returning back to India in 2006, he worked as an actor at Théâtre du Soleil, a renowned theatre company in France for 3 years .

With the rich experience of Contemporary Theatre gained from France, Koumarane returned to India and  formed Indianostrum Théâtre in 2007.

 

Abhay Mahajan – Actor

Abhay, is an actor working in various media for past 11 years. He started his acting career from Theatre. He has also acted in various films and popular web-shows.

As an actor, writer, director he been part of more than 35 full-length theatre productions, 8 full length and 5 short films, which have been screened in festivals worldwide. An alumnus of Attakalari Centre for Movement Arts, he has also been part of various residencies to train himself in Stanislavski Method Acting, Commedia dell’arte-working with masks, Adishakti’s Source of Performance Energy. He is a visiting faculty at Foundation for Liberal Arts and Education. Abhay is a founding member of Pune based theatre group – Natak Company.

 

Anjana Balaji – Actor

Anjana, a theatre artist, singer and a designer from Bengaluru, India, is interested in exploring inter-disciplinary forms and bringing them into her practice. Through her work she has explored texts of contemporary Indian playwrights. Her work includes devised pieces including immersive theatre and mask work. Most recently, she received “Best Actor in Lead Role-Female” award for her performance in Indianostrum Théâtre’s Chandâla, impure at 14th Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards.

 

Dharanidharan U – Actor

Dharanidharan, is a theatre artist from Coimbatore. A visual communication graduate, he started working as a producer for a TV channel. But soon changed his path as a theatre artist. He has been practising theatre in various capacities for past ten years. As an actor, he is associated with Indianostrum Théâtre, Manal Magudi theatre land and Lights Off, Bangalore. He is passionate about working with children in theatre. Since the year 2016, he runs an organisation called “Udalveli Arts Foundation” in Coimbatore which focuses on revival of audience culture towards performing arts. Amongst various accolades received by him for his theatre performances, most recently he received “Best Actor in Supporting Role- Male” award for portrayal of a female character in Indianostrum Théâtre’s Chandâla, impure at 14th Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards.

 

Vasanth Selvam – Actor

Vasanth Selvam is a theatre actor. He learnt theatre by practice from his mentor Koumarane Valavane, along with whom he later co-founded ‘Indianostrum Théâtre’, a theatre company based in Pondicherry. Under the direction of Koumarane Valavane he has performed in notable creations like Land of Ashes, Kunti-Karna, Karuppu, Chandâla, impure, which have been performed in leading Indian Theatre festivals, at Theatre du Soleil (2017 & 2018), Paris, France and at The Festival of Francophonie at Limoges, France (2018). He has also been associated with Rajeev Krishnan (Perch Theatre) and contemporary Dancer Preethi Athreya. He made his debut in cinema with Jacques Audiard’s Palme d’Or winner movie ‘Dheepan’ in 2015. He is a regular practitioner of Kalaripayattu – a martial art form from Kerala. He has also undertaken training in Theru Koothu and Kathakali – traditional theatre forms of Tamil Nadu and Kerala respectively. Currently, he is working in with legendary theatre director Peter Brook on his latest production of “The Prisoner” in France.

 

Arjun Chandran – Musician

Arjun, is a musician from Bangalore.  He works as a guitarist and composer with an “Electric folkloric” band – “Mantalai” in Bangalore. His ability to play multiple instruments makes him a valuable asset to the team. He has worked on many theatre and dance productions in Bangalore. He has been associated with Indianostrum Théâtre since the year 2015.
